This rare instrument has been given to Fender and was later auctioned off for charity. Mark Knopfler is a British artist who became known as the frontman of the rock band Dire Straits. Born in Scotland in 1949, he grew up in Newcastle, England and began his musical career in local bands in the 1970s. In 1977, he founded Dire Straits, which were on of the most successful bands in the 80s with songs like “Money For Nothing”, “Brothers in Arms”, “Sultans Of Swing” and many more! The music of Dire Straits was characterized by Knopfler’s unique guitar sound, which mixed elements of rock, folk and country. Mark Knopfler is now recognized as one of the most influential guitarists of his generation.
